Charbonneau Pink Ball

As many of you know, September 12 is our annual Pink Ball golf tournament that supports the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute.  Over the past 18 years, the nine hole golf tournament has raised almost $700,000 to support cancer research.  Along with the golf tournament, a silent auction has raised thousands of dollars to support this worthy cause.

This year, for the very first time, the Pink Ball Committee is opening up the Silent Auction for the Charbonneau community on Monday, September 11^th, from 4-7 p.m. in the Clubhouse.  Along with the silent auction, there will be beer and wine for sale.  For non-golfers and those not able to play, this is an opportunity to view and bid on over 100 fantastic auction items including rounds of golf at other courses, wine and wine tastings, restaurant gift certificates and more.  On Monday, you can place your best  bid and, if you wish, you can return on Tuesday to see how you did and/or increase your bid.  The Tuesday bidding opens at 11 AM.

The U.S. News & World Report has repeatedly named the Knight Cancer Institute one of the nations top cancer centers.  Every year, they treat about 6,000 patients and conduct about 1,400 research projects, including more than 400 clinical trials.  CEDAR  (Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research Center) researchers have “devised an accurate and novel way to test blood to see if a pre-cancerous condition is escalating to outright cancer—potentially enabling treatment early in tumor development when cancer is more likely to be curable. “

Their research has led to groundbreaking advances in targeted therapy, immunotherapy, surgery and other ways to fight cancer.  Their early detection research is studying to see if a simple blood test can find cancers earlier.
